Responsible play at Ege Garden

Last reviewed July 2026. The gaming gallery is one room of the house, and we run it in the same quiet register as the dining room and the reading room. This page describes how we hold play, and where in Norway to look for help if it stops feeling like play.

1. Eighteen and over, without exception

Entry to the Bøyaelvi Gallery is restricted to persons aged eighteen and over. Guests who look under twenty-five will be asked, kindly, for photographic ID at the door, a passport, a national identity card, or a Norwegian driving licence. We would rather ask ten times than miss once. Younger members of a family staying with us are welcome in every other room of the house, and we set the reading room and the waffle hour with them in mind.

2. How we hold the room

The gallery opens at nine in the evening and closes at one, Wednesday to Sunday. The register of stakes is voiced in words at the table and kept modest by house policy. Our staff are trained to notice when the room stops feeling like a room, when the play tightens, or the conversation stops, or a guest returns to a table after having said goodnight. In those moments we offer a tray of tea in the reading room and, if it is welcome, a short walk on the plateau. The gaming salon is open to guests aged 18 and over; guests who look under 25 will be asked for ID. We do not extend credit for play, we do not offer priority table reservations tied to the amount you play, and we do not run a rewards programme that ties benefits to the amount you play.

3. Setting a personal limit

If it helps you to enjoy the room, you may set a personal limit for your stay, an amount you would like the house to notice on your behalf, and a signal from us if you approach it. Speak to the manager on the evening of your arrival and we will agree it privately. The note is kept only for the length of your stay and destroyed when you leave.

4. Signs to take seriously

Play has stopped being play when it stops being a choice. Common signs are: playing longer than you meant to, playing to recover a previous evening, hiding time or spending from someone close to you, feeling irritable when you are away from the table, or borrowing to play. If any of these fit, we would gently ask you to step out of the room for the evening and to look at one of the resources below.

5. Help in Norway

Two Norwegian services offer confidential help and information, in Norwegian and English, without cost to the person calling. They are entirely independent of Ege Garden.

  • hjelpelinjen.no — the national gambling helpline, with confidential conversation and written information.
  • spillavhengighet.no — an association for people affected by gambling and their families, with self-help material and peer support.

6. If you would like us to withdraw an invitation

If a member of your party would prefer not to be admitted to the gallery during a stay, please write to the house before your arrival and we will hold the note quietly at the door. The rest of the house, the table, the reading room, the sauna raft, the plateau, remains open in the ordinary way.
